The Tribe of Levi
Jesus, Son of Mary and John

The Priestly Division of the House of Jacob

Levi was the third of the 12 sons of Jacob. Judah was the fourth son. The family of Amram (Imran) are descendants of Levi. From Amran to Aaron and Moses. From Aaron to Elizabeth and Mary. " Is not Aaron the Levite, thy brother ?" Exodus 4:14.

The Levites

Amram / Imran:

"And Amram took him Jochebed, his father's sister, to wife and she bear him Aaron and Moses. "
Levites Inheritance:

God's charge to the tribe of Levi (Numbers 18:21) :
" And behold I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation."

The Tabernacle:

While the nation of Israel was still in the desert and heading for the Promised Land , a priesthood was established in the line of Moses' brother, Aaron. A large portable tent, or tabernacle, became the center of Israelite worship and sacrifice.

Kingship:

( Mankind's Search for God page 210) :
'Eventually, an earthly kingship was established, and in 1077 B.C.E. David from the tribe of Judah, became King. With his rule , both the kingship and the priesthood were firmly established at a new national center, Jerusalem. After David's death his son Solomon built a magnificent temple in Jerusalem, which replaced the Tabernacle. Because God had made a covenant with David, for the Kingship to remain in his line forever, it was understood that an anointed king, the messiah, would one day come from David line of descent.'

A Chosen People:

"Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran above all people, - offspring, one of the other."

Commentary # 399 by Bashir Ahmad:

Imran referred to Amram of the Bible, who was the son of Kohath and grandson of Levi. He was the father of Moses, Aaron and Maryiam.

Commentary # 375 by A. Yusuf Ali:

"Now we begin the story of Jesus . As a prelude we have the birth of Mary and the parallel story of John the Baptist, Yahya, the son of Zakariya. Yahya's mother, Elizabeth, was a cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus, (Luke 1:36) and therefore John and Jesus were cousins by blood. And there was a spiritual cousinhood in their birth and career. Elizabeth was of the daughters of Aaron (Luke 1:5) of a priestly family which went back to Aaron, the brother of Moses and son of Imran. By tradition Mary's mother was called Hannah, and her father was called Imran. Hannah is therefore both a descendant of the priestly house of Imran and the wife of Imran, - 'a woman of Imran' in a double sense."

Mary: She was a Levite.:

She was of the line of Aaron (Luke 1:5, Qur'an 19:28). Her father was an Imranite. Her mother was an Imranite. Mary was a pure-blooded Imranite by mother and father.

THE POINT:

Jesus claimed kinship to David of the tribe of Judah of the House of Jacob.
Matthew 1:1; Acts 2:29-30; Revelations 22:16 , (Biblical ref. to Son Of David)

THE APEX:

If Jesus is not of Davidic descent, he has to be deemed a fake, counterfeit Messiah.
If however, he is the real Messiah, then fatherhood of Davidic descent is inevitable.
