Jesus The Messiah, Son Of David
|
| Jesus, Son of Mary and John |
|
|
Psalm of David: "The LORD said unto my Lord , 'sit thou on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.' ( 110:1)
|
|
|
"While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus ask them, saying, what think ye of Christ (The Messiah)? Whose son is he? They say unto him, the Son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord?, saying The LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then called him Lord, how is he his son? And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. " Matthew 22: 41-46
Take a look at John 7:42:
7:42. Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

Ouch he grafe eipen hoti ek tou spermatosDauid kai apo Bethlem tes komes hopou en Dauiderchetai ho Christos?"
|
Note the Greek words "spermatosDauid". It seems that that there is more to it than than meet the eye. The Messiah must be from a male progeny of David.
God, The Almighty, or no father (fatherless) is not the of "spermatosDauid".
In Luke 1:32, the Angel said "and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:".

Prophecy consideration from Jeremiah 33:19-26:
Note, God The Almighty, is emphasizing the fact that his covinant will not be broken and that He will unite the family of David and the Levites and from these two chosen families will come "a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers."
19. And the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, saying,
20. Thus saith the Lord; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season;
21. Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
22. As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.
23. Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
24. Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the Lord hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
25. Thus saith the Lord; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;
26. Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.

The Unanswered question:
If Jesus is David's son how could it be believed in that Jesus should not be a man but a superman? The vital word is LORD. What the Jews were expecting in the personality of the expected Messiah was an emperor of earthly sovereignty not lord of a heavenly kingdom. As the Encyclopedia Judaica explains, by the first century messianic expectations were high. The messiah was expected to be "a charismatically endowed descendant of David who the Jews of the Roman Period believed would be raised upon by God to break the yoke of the heathen and to reign over a restored kingdom of Israel." However the militant messiah the Jews were expecting was not forthcoming.

Back to the subject matter :
Jesus claimed to be Christ, the fulfillment of prophesies in the Hebrew Scriptures. His questions to the Pharisee was :
| (a) |
How is Christ son to David? |
| (b) |
In what wise was his sonship to David so "holy" that David by inspiration called him "Lord"?
No man was able to answer him a word.
|
Hitherto: Jews, Christians nor Muslims can prove beyond the shadow of a doubt Jesus' line of descent to David. Certainly not by a Levitical mother and fatherless! That is the unsolved mystery!

John is the Missing Link!
|
|
|
"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist."
"Allah give thee glad tidings of Yahya (John) a kalimat (a Word or Promise) from Him, noble and chaste, and a prophet from among the righteous."
"Peace on him (John) the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he will be raised up to life again!"
"And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent taketh by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
"O Yahya! Take hold of the Book with might, and we gave him wisdom even as a youth, and pity from us and purity and he was devout."

Violation of the Covenant.
|
|
Both: Rightous, Blameless
|
Luke begins his gospel with: "There was in the days of Herod a certain priest named Zacharias and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron and her name was Elizabeth and they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless." Luke 1:5..

Spirituality vs. Divinity
|
Jesus' lordship (as prophesied by David) is based on his spirituality not on divinity. His holiness was inherited from his father and mother through the righteousness of both paternal and maternal grandparents. The violation of the Covenant was not by God, it was by the Jews. How?
By their rejection of Jesus as their Promised Messiah!
