Elias (Elijah) John Mark 6:15; 8:28; Luke 1:17; Matt 11:14

On the cross, was Jesus crying out for his Father in heaven or his father on earth? ( Matthew 27:46; Also Mark 15:34)

E'li, E'li, (Illahi, Illahi)

"And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "E'li, E'li, la-ma sa-bach-tha-ni. That is to say, My God, My God, Why hast thou forsaken me?" Some of them that stood there when they heard that, said, "This man calleth for Elias."

The rest said, 'Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.' (Matthew 27:45-49)

Testimony of the eye and ear witnesses:

They swore to it that Jesus was calling for ELIAS. So well they heard and saw that they said: 'let be, let us see if ELIAS will come to save him.'

The Biblical meaning of E'li / Elias is my God or God with me.

In Jesus' language: Elias was his earthly father. (My God or God with me)

In Jesus' language: Our Father who art in heaven is Almighty God [his heavenly Father].

Scripturally, Elias was non-existent, a non-entity as a visible being. The existing physical entity was John the Baptist. In person, in spirit and in power John was the reality. Elias was the shadow.

To the Point

Elias was synonymous with John in name and in reference (Mark 6:15; 8:28; Luke 1:17). John was Elias in reality. John in person fulfilled scriptural prophesies of 'Elias which was for to come' (Matt 11:14). The presence of Elias/John was the awaited sign that was to signal the Messiah's advent. Elias/John was to 'pave the way' for the Messiah's coming (Luke 1:76). His purpose was not to prepare the people for the acceptance of the message of the Messiah as believed. His was the signal, the 'sign', to Israel -- I am here, be prepared. The Messiah is on his 'way'.

To the APEX

If to Jesus, Elias was 'my God' and he referred to Elias as 'my father' and he said that he is the son of 'that God' and 'that Father' then, Biblically, the Gospel Truth is:

Jesus was the son of John the Baptist.
