Elias is the same as Elijah. He was a prophet of the desert, like John. It is said that he was taken up in a whirlwind to heaven in a chariot of fire. Jesus disclosed that John was Elias.

Biblical Prophesy: Elias's return would be the Sign that the Messiah will appear to redeem Israel from Roman bondage, re-unite the 12 Tribes, restore on them the Throne of David and grant them nationhood in an abode of peace.
Malachi 4:5 'Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming the great and dreadful day of the Lord.'
Matt. 17:10 (Disciples) 'why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus said, Elias truly shall first come, but I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.'
Luke 1:17 'And he shall go before him in the power and spirit of Elias.'
Matt. 11:14-15 'And if ye will receive it, this is Elias which is for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear .'

Logic & Reason based on Law & Truth
Firstly:
Eli means 'my God'. Elias means 'my God with me'.
To Jesus: (a) Elias was 'God with me'. (b) my Father
| To Jesus: |
(a.) |
Elias was 'God with me' |
(b.) |
my Father |
| By God: |
(a.) |
He made John Prophet and gave him the Book (Luke 3:2) - John is God. (John 10:35) |
(b.) |
He sent John in the power and spirit of Elijah - John is High & a Power. John is Power of the Highest! (Luke 1:35)
(c.) |
John was made "Prophet of The Highest" (Luke 1:76) |
| Mary: |
(a.) |
The Power of the Highest overshadowed her and she became pregnant.
(b.) |
He sent John in the power and spirit of Elijah - John is High & a Power. John is Power of the Highest! (Luke 1:35)
| Jesus: |
(a.) |
he is Son of the Highest (Luke 1:32) |
(b.) |
God shall give unto him the throne of his father David (Luke 1:32) |
| John: |
(a.) |
Was created by God through special intervention in Zachariah and Elizabeth |
(b.) |
Was Sent By God |
(c.) |
John was "the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;" (Luke 1:76) |
(d.) |
Was from the "Seed of David" |
(e.) |
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." (Matt. 3:3) [If John was merely six months older than Jesus, then why does God need this to be.] |
(f.) |
John was Elias in reality.Mark 6:15; 8:28; Luke 1:17; Matt 11:14. John in person fulfilled scriptural prophesies of 'Elias which was for to come' (Matt 11:14). The presence of Elias/John was the awaited sign that was to signal the Messiah's advent. |
JESUS is the son of JOHN.
Secondly:
John: "the word of God came unto" him. As God's Vicegerent -, he is God. This is scriptural Law, 'and the scripture cannot be broken;' (John 10:35)
Jesus: I am the Son of "he unto whom the word of God came" - that God.
JESUS is the son of JOHN (in a double sense from right to left).
Jews' rejection of Jesus as their Messiah
They do not believe that "John was Elias which was for to come". They were on the look out for the self same Elijah (Elias), their Prophet of old. Secondly: They do not know that Jesus is the son of John. Mary was a Levite but John was a Jew of the tribe of Judah. As son of John, Jesus was of Davidic descent of the House of Jacob. The blood of the tribes of Judah and Levi were in his veins. Thus in Jesus the priestly and the Kingly dignity were at length last united fulfilling the prophesies of yore, ALL THE PROPHESIES.
