THE  WORD
Jesus, Son of Mary and John

"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh."

Who was the Word:

God, ?
Jesus, ?
or
John ?

(a) Genesis 1:1 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.'

(b) St. John 1:1 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.'

Comparison

(a) relates to the history of creation.

(b) relates to the history of Jesus Christ.

St. John, coming in Jesus' era cannot speak as an authority of events dating back to time immemorial. Even Mark and Luke began the writing of their Gospels from the birth and purpose of John the Baptist. Incidentally, so too the Qur'an. Before the narration of the birth of Jesus, an account of the birth and purpose of John is told. Twice. Once in chapter 3 and again in 19.

In Search of who was the Word.

Was the Word - God, Jesus or John?

The three sentences of verse 1 of St. John's Gospel spell out the 'Agent' of God's Design and his Spirituality. Verse 2 -5 reveal that God being the Designer, He was there from the start in what was to happen. Then, finally, verse 6 identifies God's Agent by name - JOHN. God, the architect, used John in the blue-print that vouchsafed life, birth and existence of Jesus, the Messiah in fulfillment of His promise unto the Children of Israel -not unto the world.

Cross examination of the three sentences of Verse 1 in reverse order:

1. "And the Word was God."

The Jehovah,s Witnesses translation of the sentence is: 'And the Word was a god.'

The Text of John 10: 30-36 read in conjunction with Psalm 82: 6 and Luke 3: 2 lead to the inevitable conclusion that 'unto John the Word of God came, hence by the Law of Psalms 82: 6 John was God in the lifetime of Jesus.

2. "And the Word was with God."

Mark 1: 1-3 'The beginning of the gospel of Jesus..... As it is written in the Prophets (Mal. 3: 1), Behold I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee...... The voice of one crying in the wilderness.

By unanimous belief these words relate to John. If John was God's messenger and was sent by God to do what it took to bring forth Jesus, then John was with God - he was the Word..

3. "In the beginning was the Word."

In Luke 1: 1-17, John was Elias 'which was for to come', in power and in spirit.

Zachariah and Elizabeth were childless and beyond parenthood. How could John be 'son' to them unless

'in the beginning was Elias' ?

Editorial Note: The statements below needs further clarification to justify its place as an argument and has to to with the interpretation of Isaiah 9: 6 and Revelations 19:13.

Isaiah 9:6. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Rev. 19:13. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

These verses are used by Christian commentators to mean applicable to Jesus. Isaiah 9:6 is talking about a son that is born that becomes "The Mighty God, the everlasting Father". This is clearly not a description of Jesus, since Christians call Jesus the Son of God and Jesus was not the known father of anyone that Christians can claim an being the son of Jesus. This description is not of The Creator, because the being is a Child that is born and is the Prince of Peace - as apposed to a Father and a King.

Revelations 19:13 talks about a title of The Word of God given to to someone. Take a closer look at John 1, where it states that 'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word was God" - a god or a deity as some other translations interpreted it to be. 'In him was life', the Qur'an expressly names John as Yahya, meaning 'Life'. Verse 6 says that "There was a man sent from God, his name was John." Verse 19 states that "And this is the record of John". There are many parentheses and translations that will emphasize Jesus as the main subject, but keep in mind verse 19. A man sent from God. Where is John from? Verse six says that he is from God. If a person is sent from someone then that person must have been with that someone, John 1:6, "There was a man sent from God, his name was John." John was the Word that was with God. Luke 3:2 says that "the word of God came unto John". John 10:34&35 authenticated by Psalm 82:6, says that those to whom the word of God comes are called God.

Explicitly rendered , the verse truly means:

(a) In the beginning was Elias (John);
(b) And Elias (John) was with God and
(c) Elias (John) was God (a god)
