"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
But have everlasting life."

Bible Preface: 'There is a verse in the Bible which has been translated into over 1100 languages. It tells of the One Who loved us with an everlasting love. The verse is here recorded in 22 of the important world languages which are understood by three-quarters of the earth's population. The verse is John 3: 16.'
Noteworthy: In the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, only in St. John is it recorded that Jesus referred to himself as 'the Son of God'. As a counter-balance to this, the very Gospel writer declared John the Baptist as 'God on earth' by Jewish Scripture, viz:
By Law: because 'the word of God came unto John' (Luke 3:1-2); Psalm 82:6; John 10:30-36 )
By Name: because 'John was Elias', and Elias means, 'God with us'. (Matt. 27:46 Also Catholic Encyclopedia.)
It began on this note: 'there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, 'how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.'
|
|
A well known fact: the Elders of the Jews sought every chance to trick Jesus in their attempts to trap him in words. The moment his answer begins with, 'verily, verily, I say unto you', behold:
|
(a) |
he exercises his wit of their Law, |
|
(b) |
he triumphantly escapes their web |
| and |
(c) |
off their feet, he leave them hanging in suspense as if by gravity.
|
Back to Nicodemus: He believed in Jesus but for fear, being an Elder of the Jews, dared not identify himself, thus his visits to Jesus was by night. Jesus said, 'no man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.' He cannot 'see' nor 'enter'.
To the Point:
|
(a) |
Who was God? |
|
(b) |
Who was 'his only begotten Son'? |
The statements of Jesus in contrast with those of John in the said Chapter 3, speak loud and clear.

A closer look at who is Father and Who is God
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, ..."
Question: Who is the God that so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son? Is God the Almighty of God? Is this only begotten son only worthy of the Isrelites? The God of the Worlds is a fair God, IS HE NOT? What about the Europeans, Asians, Africans, Indians e.t.c. Is it wise for the Almighty, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent God to have an only begotten son that He would then send to a particular people at a particular time? The Qur'an expounded on this clearly when it stated "Might the universe crumble than He should have a son"
Qur'an 4:171. "O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah (God) save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three". Cease! (it is) better for you! Allah is only One God. Far is it removed from His transcendent majesty that he should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender."
Isaiah 9:6
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
Question: Who is this Child, son, who becomes The mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace? Who does this description matches, God, Jesus or John? Note also that the word "Prince" is used, indicating subordination to a King. Could this be be John who became the supernatural being called Elias? (God with us)
John 6: 45-47:
"It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." John 6: 45-47
Question: Who is he of God? Is God the Almighty of God?
John 8:54:
"Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing; it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God; yet ye have not known him; but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you." John 8:54:
Question: Who is he 'of whom ye say, that he is your God'? Note that this is explained by Jesus in John 10:
34. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? (See Psalms 82:6)
35. If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
Look carefully at the following verses:
John 1:6. "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John."
Luke 3:2 "...the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness."
John 5: 18-26
"Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth; and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them ; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself." John 5: 18-26
Matt. 11: 27
"All things are delivered unto me of my Father; and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him." Matt. 11: 27
Question: Who is he that Son will reveal? Was God The Almighty revealed to anyone by Jesus? Did the people know of God, The Almighty already? Surely they were worshipping the God of Abraham and Moses.
Take a closer look at John 3 (below), from which this famous statement, John 3:16, is embedded. In verse 30, John, speaking in terms of Father and Son, says: "He must increase, but I must decrease."
Question: Did John mean that Jesus must increase and God must decrease? Or was John speaking of himself as Father and Jesus as his Son, concluding with 'the Father loveth the Son , and hath given all things into his hands?'
Jesus speaking of the Father
Jesus was the light (John 8:12), John was the witness of the light (John 1:7). Jesus called the "witness of the light", father, My father. (John 8:19)
16. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17. It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19. Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
26. I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27. They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
John speaking of the Son; A conclusion of John 3:16:
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase but I must decrease. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hands.' (John 3:27-35)
It is not by coincidence that Verse 3:19 states:
"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."
The Truth:
The meaning of John 3:16:
John was God* and Jesus was his only begotten son!
* John was not the Almighty God, but 'God' was a title that the Israelites gives to one who receives the word form The Glorious Creator of the Universe. (10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? (see Psalm 82:6)10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

John 3:1-End
| 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: |
| 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. |
| 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. |
| 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? |
| 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. |
| 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. |
| 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. |
| 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. |
| 3:9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? |
| 3:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? |
| 3:11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. |
| 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? |
| 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. |
| 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: |
| 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. |
| 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. |
| 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. |
| 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. |
| 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. |
| 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. |
| 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. |
| 3:22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. |
| 3:23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. |
| 3:24 For John was not yet cast into prison. |
| 3:25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. |
| 3:26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. |
| 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. |
| 3:28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. |
| 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. |
| 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease. |
| 3:31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. |
| 3:32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. |
| 3:33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. |
| 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. |
| 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. |
| 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. |
