Tribal Identity
Mary's Father:
'And Mary the daughter of Imran' ( Qur'an 66: 12)
Mary's Mother:
'Behold! a woman of Imran said.' 3: 35
Yusuf Ali commentary # 375
"By tradition Mary's mother was called Hannah and her father was called Imran. Hannah is, therefore, both a descendant of the priestly house of Imran, and a wife of Imran - 'a woman of Imran' in a double sense."
Yusuf Ali commentary # 5551
"Imran was traditionally the name of the father of Mary the mother of Jesus."
Muhammad Ali commentary #412
'According to tradition, however, Imran was the name of Mary's father, and therefore the words imra't 'Imran may mean the wife of 'Imran.'
Qur'anic Testimony:
The Holy Quran testifies that Mary was by (a) father (b) mother and (c) her ancestors, a pure-blooded Imranite, one in whom there was no guile.
"Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran above the nations,
Offspring, one of the other. And Allah is All-Hearing All-Knowing." Qur'an 3: 32 - 33
This distinguishes the family of Imran as representing a major bloc of the 12 Tribes of Isra'el. An important factor to note for this will have consequences as would be realized.

Mary's Acceptance / Protection / Sustenance:
R E C A P
"Right graciously did her Lord accept her. He made her grow in purity and beauty; to the care of Zakariya was she assigned. Every time that he entered (her) chamber to see her, he found her supplied with sustenance. He said: 'O Mary! Whence (comes) this to you?' She said: 'from Allah: for Allah provides sustenance to whom He pleases without measure'." Qur'an 3:37
Commentary # 379 by Yusuf Ali
"Mary grew under God's special protection. Her sustenance, under which we may include both her physical and spiritual food, came from God, and her growth was indeed a 'goodly growth' which I have tried to express in the text by the words 'purity and beauty'. Some apocryphal Christian writings say that she was brought up in the Temple to the age of twelve like a dove, and she was fed by angels."
Further Testimony:
As a descendant of Aaron ( Luke 1: 5, Quran 19: 28), Mary was a Levite. ('Is not Aaron, the Levite, thy brother' Exodus 4:14) She was not of the tribe of Judah. She was not a Jew. She was not of Davidic descent.
Unsolved Mystery:
This is Scriptural testimony of Mary's nationality, pin-pointed to her tribal identity. How a fatherless Jesus became a Jew, from the seed of David, of the Tribe of Judah, of the House of Jacob is indeed puzzling. Muslims declare his Messiahship but by the same breath assert that he is fatherless. Advocates of the Virgin Birth Theory cannot but dismiss the subject as an

Mary's descent was from Israel's priestly line. God's choice of her had its root in the Messianic Promise, the fulfillment of which was His knowledge in absoluteness. Israel's perplexity is why Mary when prophesies foretold a Messiah of King David's descent
