give thee good news of a son; his name shall be
Yahya; on none by that name have We conferred
Distinction before'."

"Yahya or John is the name of the Prophet who appeared
before Jesus to serve as his harbinger in fulfillment with
the Biblical prophecy (Mal. 3: 1 & 4: 5). The Hebrew
form is YUHANNA which in that language means, God
has been gracious (Enc. Brit.). The name Yahya was given
by God Himself."

S A M I Y Y A:
God specifically told Zachariah that no one else will be alike to his son John in the distinctive features He of Himself conferred on him. And to ensure that the word samiyya is correctly understood, in 19: 65 He cited Himself as an example by the question:

'Who do you know is like unto Him ?'
'...we can search the whole wide world of our imagination
and we shall not find another to be compared with Him in
name or quality...' (interpretation of the word samiyya in 19: 65).
Qur'anic Translators:
Instead of understanding samiyya as it applies to John that no one else would answer to his unique feature, translators have belaboured verse 7 to be construed into meaning that no one else would have the identical name given to him by God. No namesake. What a mistake!
