Transliteration 30. WA- 'IDH QAALA RABB -KA LI- AL- MALAA'IKAH 'INNI -Y JAAcIL FE AL- 'ARD. KHALEFAH QAALO 'A- TAJcAL FE -HAA MAN YUFSID FE -HAA WA- YASFIK AD- DIMAA' WA- NAH.NU NUSABBIH. BI- H.AMD -KA WA- NUQADDIS LA- -KA QAALA 'INNI -Y AcLAM MAA LAA TAcLAMON
Yusuf Ali 30. Behold thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said "Wilt thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood? Whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."
Pickthall 30. And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: wilt Thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee? He said: Surely I know that which ye know not.
Shakir 30 . And when your Lord said to the angels, I am going to place in the earth a khalif, they said: What! wilt Thou place in it such as shall make mischief in it and shed blood, and we celebrate Thy praise and extol Thy holiness? He said: Surely I know what you do not know.
Comments Note: Allah is adressing the Malika (Angels), saying that he is going to make or place (JAAcIL) a KHALEFAH in the earth. There is no mention of Adam being created here. The common word used for create is Khalaqa, Stronger words used are Fatir and Badi.

This responsibility of being the Khalefah assumes a heavy responsibility. We are in the period of the Khilafat of Adam through Muhammad. Allah grants his kingdom to whomsoever he pleases and takes it away from whomwsoever he pleased (See 3:26).

Transliteration 31. WA- cALLAMA 'AADAM AL- ASMAA' KULL -HAA THUMMA cARAD.A -HUM cALAA AL- MALAA'IKAH FA- QAALA NABBI'O -NE BI- ASMAA' HAA'ULAA'I 'IN KUNTUM S.AADIQEN
Yusuf Ali 31. And He taught Adam the nature of all things; then He placed them before the angels and said: "Tell Me the nature of these if ye are right."
Pickthall 31. And He taught Adam all the names, then showed them to the angels, saying: Inform me of the names of these, if ye are truthful.
Shakir 31 . And He taught Adam all the names, then presented them to the angels; then He said: Tell me the names of those if you are right.
Comments Note: the Names of things. This is a very important concept in the evolution of mankind and their development. Knowing the names of things gives one a sence of power over that thing (not over Allah, of course) or at least a sence of not having fear, since you have knowledge of it. Take for instance, The monster, it conjures up fear of the unknown. Give it a name and it becomes less fearful. Someone said that the greatest fear of all is fear itself. That is because it is an unknown. Put a name to it or understand its nature, its character, and it is conquered.

Many ascribe many names to Allah, each one is a characteristic that represent an attribute to our Lord. This is our way of trying to understand, piece by piece, the complexity that He represents.

Most of our learing involves, to varying degrees, assingining names to things and attributing a neme to a concept or principle. Having conquered this, we can then communicate this to those around us. We use the process of Bayaan to convey what we are taught, of the names and nature of things: all of which Allah has given to us (55:1-4)
