Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest O my Lord in my prayer to Thee! Pickthall 4. Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. Shakir 4 . 005	Arabic Transliteration 5. WA- 'INNI -Y KHIFTU AL- MAWAALE MIN WARAA'I -Y WA- KAANAT IMRA'AH -E cAAQIR(AN) FA- HAB LI- -Y MIN LADUN -KA WALEY(AN) Yusuf Ali 5. "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself Pickthall 5. Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor Shakir 5. And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, Comments Note: Zachariah's prayer is preserved and mentioned in 3:38, he prayed for MIN LADUN -KA DHURREYAH T.AYYIBAH (from Thee a progeny that is pure. 19:5, he prayed for MIN LADUN -KA WALEY(AN) (give me an heir as from Thyself). (Note: the word waley means to be near, or close to, like a friend is close) 21:89, he prayed LAA TADHAR -NE FARD(AN) (leave me not without offspring).The word farad means alone, by itself, solitary.
006	Arabic Transliteration 6. YARITH -NE WA- YARITH MIN 'AAL YAcQOB WA- IJcAL -HU RABB -I RAD.EY(AN) Yusuf Ali 6. "(One that) will (truly) represent me and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" Pickthall 6. Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable ( unto Thee). Shakir 6. Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. Comments Note that Zakariya paryed for some that will "inherit" (and continue) Jacob. Since Allah said in 19:4 that Zakariya said that he has never been unblessed in his Dua' (prayers) therefore any progeny must allow the continuation of this process and cannot be removed from this worls without continuing this process (until Allah Please).
007	Arabic Transliteration 7. YAA ZAKAREYAA 'IN(NA) -NAA NUBASHSHIR -KA BI- GHULAAM ISM -HU YAH.YAA LAM NAJcAL LA- -HU MIN QABLU SAMEY(AN) Yusuf Ali 7. (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: his name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." Pickthall 7. (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). Shakir 7. O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. Comments
008	Arabic Transliteration 8. QAALA RABB -I 'ANNAA YAKON LI- -Y GHULAAM WA- KAANAT IMRA'AH -E cAAQIR(AN) WA- QAD BALAGHTU MIN AL- KIBAR cITEY(AN) Yusuf Ali 8. He said: "O my Lord! how shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" Pickthall 8. He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? Shakir 8. He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? Comments
009	Arabic Transliteration 9. QAALA KA- DHAALIKA QAALA RABB -KA HUWA cALAY -YA HAYYIN WA- QAD KHALAQTU -KA MIN QABLU WA- LAM TAKU(N) SHAY'(AN) Yusuf Ali 9. He said: "So (it will be): thy Lord saith `That is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before when thou hadst been nothing!' " Pickthall 9. He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. Shakir 9. He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. Comments
010	Arabic Transliteration 10. QAALA RABB -I IJcAL LI- -Y 'AAYAH QAALA 'AAYAH -KA 'AN LAA TUKALLIM AN- NAAS THALAATH LAYAAL(IN) SAWEY(AN) Yusuf Ali 10. (Zakariya) said "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign" was the answer "shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights although thou art not dumb." Pickthall 10. He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. Shakir 10. He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. Comments
011	Arabic Transliteration 11. FA- KHARAJA cALAA QAWM -HI MIN AL- MIH.RAAB FA- AWH.AA 'ILAY -HIM 'AN SABBIH.O BUKRAH WA- cASHEY(AN) Yusuf Ali 11. So Zakariya came out to his people from his chamber: he told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. Pickthall 11. Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. Shakir 11. So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. Comments

(To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him wisdom even as a youth. Pickthall 12. (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold the Scripture. 014	Arabic Transliteration 14. WA- BARR(AN) BI- WAALIDAI -HI WA- LAM YAKUN JABBAAR(AN) cAS.EY(AN) Yusuf Ali 14. And kind to his parents and he was not overbearing or rebellious. Pickthall 14. And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. Shakir 14. And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. Comments
015	Arabic Transliteration 15. WA- SALAAM cALAY -HI YAWM WULIDA WA- YAWM YAMOT WA- YAWM YUBcATH H.AYY(AN) Yusuf Ali 15. So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! Pickthall 15. Peace on him the day be was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! Shakir 15. And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life Comments Note that v12-15 are all the characteristics bestowed by Allah unto Yahya (John).
