Transliteration 29. FA- ASHAARAT 'ILAY -HI QAALO KAYFA NUKALLIM MAN KAANA FE AL- MAHD S.ABEY(AN)
Yusuf Ali 29. But she pointed to the babe. They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?"
Pickthall 29. Then she pointed to him. They said How can we tale to one who is in the cradle, a young boy?
Shakir 29 . But she pointed to him. They said: How should we speak to one who was a child in the cradle?
Comments Note: Sabeeya is never used as meaning a baby. Pickthall is closer to the truth when he translates the word to being ' a young boy'. The word is more akin to be a boy or youth according to Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic.

Arabic
Transliteration 30. QAALA 'INNI -Y cABD 'ALLAAH 'AATAA -NE AL- KITAAB WA- JAcALA -NE NABEY(AN)
Yusuf Ali 30. He said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet;
Pickthall 30. He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,
Shakir 30 . He said: Surely I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet;
Comments Note that v30-32 are all the characteristics bestowed by Allah unto Yahya (John) in 19:12-15.

He ihas been given a Book and he is a Nabey. In verse 29 above, this person is described as a sabeeya. If this was a baby, the word tifl would have been used. Another point to note is that in verse 26, the person told Mary to vow a fast and not to speak to any man this day, the day she was in labor pains. If the child was born, then this day would still be the day that Allah recorded in these verses. No baby could speak, be a servant of Allah, be given a book, be a nabey (a Prophet) or a sabeeya (a young man or boy) all at the the same time, just after birth. Further, Verses 31&32 shows that he was enjoined salaat, Zakaa(t), these seems a heavy task for a new born baby. (See the comparison chart in verse 19:32)
