Transliteration 16. WA- MAA KHALAQNAA AS- SAMAA' WA- AL- 'ARD. WA- MAA BAYNA -HUMAA LAAcIBEN
Yusuf Ali 16. Not for (idle) sport did We create the heavens and the earth and all that is between!
Pickthall 16. We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in play.
Shakir 16 . And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them for sport.

Transliteration 17. LAW ARADNAA 'AN NATTAKHIDH LAHW(AN) LA- ITTAKHADHNAA -HU MIN LADUN -NAA 'IN KUNNAA FAAcILEN
Yusuf Ali 17. If it had been Our wish to take (just) a pastime We should surely have taken it from the things nearest to Us if We would do (such a thing)!
Pickthall 17. If We had wished to find a pastime, We could have found it in Our presence if We ever did.
Shakir 17 . Had We wished to make a diversion, We would have made it from before Ourselves: by no means would We do (it).

Transliteration 18. BAL NAQDHIF BI- AL- H.AQQ cALAA AL- BAAT.IL FA- YADMAGH -HU FA- 'IDHAA HUWA ZAAHIQ WA- LA- -KUM AL- WAYL MIN MAA TAS.IFON
Yusuf Ali 18. Nay We hurl the Truth against falsehood and it knocks out its brain and behold falsehood doth perish! Ah! woe be to you for the (false) things ye ascribe (to Us).
Pickthall 18. Nay, but We hurl the true against the false, and it doth break its head and lo! it vanisheth. And yours will be woe for that which ye ascribe (unto Him).
Shakir 18 . Nay! We cast the truth against the falsehood, so that it breaks its head, and lo! it vanishes; and woe to you for what you describe;

Transliteration 19. WA- LA- -HU MAN FE AS- SAMAAWAAT WA- AL- 'ARD. WA- MAN cINDA -HU LAA YASTAKBIRON cAN cIBAADAH -HI WA- LAA YASTAH.SIRON
Yusuf Ali 19. To Him belong all (creatures) in the heavens and on earth: even those who are in His (very) Presence are not too proud to serve Him nor are they (ever) weary (of His service):
Pickthall 19. Unto Him belongeth whosoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those who dwell in His presence are not too proud to worship Him nor do they weary;
Shakir 19 . And whoever is in the heavens and the earth is His; and those who are with Him are not proud to serve Him, nor do they grow weary.

Yusuf Ali 20. They celebrate His praises night and day nor do they ever flag or intermit.
Pickthall 20. They glorify (Him) night and day; they flag not.
Shakir 20 . They glorify (Him) by night and day; they are never languid.

Yusuf Ali 21. Or have they taken (for worship) gods from the earth who can raise (the dead)?

Shakir 21 . Or have they taken gods from the earth who raise (the dead).

Transliteration 22. LAW KAANA FE -HIMAA 'AALIHAH 'ILLAA 'ALLAAH LA- FASADATAA FA- SUBH.AANA 'ALLAAH RABB AL- cARSH cAN MAA YAS.IFON
Yusuf Ali 22. If there were in the heavens and the earth other gods besides Allah there would have been confusion in both! But glory to Allah the Lord of the Throne: (high is He) above what they attribute to Him!
Pickthall 22. If there were therein Gods beside Allah, then verily both (the heavens and the earth) had been disordered. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, from all that they ascribe (unto Him).
Shakir 22 . If there had been in them any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder; therefore glory be to Allah, the Lord of the dominion, above what they attribute (to Him).

Transliteration 23. LAA YUS'AL cAN MAA YAFcAL WA- HUM YUS'ALON
Yusuf Ali 3. He cannot be questioned for His acts but they will be questioned (for theirs).
Pickthall 23. He will not be questioned as to that which He doeth, but they will be questioned.
Shakir 23 . He cannot be questioned concerning what He does and they shall be questioned.

Transliteration 24. 'AM ITTAKHADHO MIN DONI -HI 'AALIHAH QUL HAATO BURHAAN -KUM HAADHAA DHIKR MAN MAcI -YA WA- DHIKR MAN QABLI -Y BAL AKTHAR -HUM LAA YAcLAMON AL- H.AQQ FA- HUM MUcRID.ON
Yusuf Ali 24. Or have they taken for worship (other) gods besides Him? Say "Bring your convincing proof: this is the Message of those with me and the Message of those before me." But most of them know not the Truth and so turn away.
Pickthall 24. Or have they chosen other gods beside Him? Say: Bring your proof (of their godhead). This is the Reminder of those with me and those before me, but most of them know not the Truth and so they are averse.
Shakir 24 . Or, have they taken gods besides Him? Say: Bring your proof; this is the reminder of those with me and the reminder of those before me. Nay! most of them do not know the truth, so they turn aside.

Transliteration 25. WA- MAA ARSALNAA MIN QABLI -KA MIN RASOL 'ILLAA NOH.E 'ILAY -HI 'ANNA -HU LAA 'ILAAH 'ILLAA 'ANAA FA- UcBUDO -NI
Yusuf Ali 25. Not an apostle did We send before thee without this inspiration sent by Us to him: that there is no god but I; therefore worship and serve Me.
Pickthall 25. And We sent no messenger before thee but We inspired him, (saying): There is no God save Me (Allah), so worship Me.
Shakir 25 . And We did not send before you any apostle but We revealed to him that there is no god but Me, therefore serve Me.

Transliteration 26. WA- QAALO ITTAKHADHA AR- RAH.MAAN WALAD(AN) SUBH.AANA -HU BAL cIBAAD MUKRAMON
Yusuf Ali 26. And they say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten offspring." Glory to Him! they are (but) servants raised to honor.
Pickthall 26. And they say: The Beneficent hath taken unto Himself a son. Be He glorified! Nay, but (those whom they call sons) are honored slaves;
Shakir 26 . And they say: The Beneficent God has taken to Himself a ! son. Glory be to Him. Nay! they are honored servants

Transliteration 27. LAA YASBIQON -HU BI- AL- QAWL WA- HUM BI- 'AMR -HI YAcMALON
Yusuf Ali 27. They speak not before He speaks and they act (in all things) by His command.
Pickthall 27. They speak not until He hath spoken, and they act by His command.
Shakir 27 . They do not precede Him in speech and (only) according to His commandment do they act.

Transliteration 28. YAcLAM MAA BAYNA AYDE -HIM WA- MAA KHALFA -HUM WA- LAA YASHFAcON 'ILLAA LI- MAN IRTAD.AA WA- HUM MIN KHASHYAH -HI MUSHFIQON
Yusuf Ali 8. He knows what is before them and what is behind them and they offer no intercession except for those who are acceptable and they stand in awe and reverence of His (glory).
Pickthall 28. He knoweth what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede except for him whom He accepteth, and they quake for awe of Him.
Shakir 28 . He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not intercede except for him whom He approves and for fear of Him they tremble.

Transliteration 29. WA- MAN YAQUL MIN -HUM 'INNI -Y 'ILAAH MIN DONI -HI FA- DHAALIKA NAJZE -HI JAHANNAM KA- DHAALIKA NAJZE AZ.- Z.AALIMEN
Yusuf Ali 29. If any of them should say "I am a god besides Him" such a god We should reward with Hell: thus do We reward those who do wrong.
Pickthall 29. And one of them who should say: Lo! I am a God beside Him, that one We should repay with hell. Thus We repay wrong doers.
Shakir 29 . And whoever of them should say: Surely I am a god besides Him, such a one do We recompense with hell; thus do, We recompense the unjust.

Transliteration 30. 'A- WA- LAM YARA 'ALLADHENA KAFARO 'ANNA AS- SAMAAWAAT WA- AL- 'ARD. KAANATAA RATQ(AN) FA- FATAQNAA -HUMAA WA- JAcALNAA MIN AL- MAA' KULL SHAY' H.AYY 'A- FA- LAA YU'MINON
Yusuf Ali 30. Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of Creation) before We clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?
Pickthall 30. Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them, and We made every living thing of water? Will they not then believe?
Shakir 30 . Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were closed up, but We have opened them; and We have made of water everything living, will they not then believe?
