Transliteration 1. TABAARAKA 'ALLADHE BI- YAD -HI AL- MULK WA- HUWA cALAA KULL SHAY' QADER
Yusuf Ali 1. Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion: and He over all things Hath Power
Pickthall 1. Blessed is He in Whose hand is the Sovereignty, and He is Able to do all things.
Shakir 1 . Blessed is He in Whose hand is the kingdom, and He has power over all things,

Yusuf Ali 2. He Who created Death and Life that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might Oft-Forgiving
Pickthall 2. Who hath created life and death that He may try you, which of you is best in conduct; and He is the Mighty, Forgiving,
Shakir 2 . Who created death and life that He may try you-- which of you is best in deeds; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving,

Transliteration 3. 'ALLADHE KHALAQA SABc SAMAAWAAT T.IBAAQ(AN) MAA TARAA FE KHALQ AR- RAH.MAAN MIN TAFAAWUT FA- IRJIc AL- BAS.AR HAL TARAA MIN FUT.OR
Yusuf Ali 3. He Who created the seven heavens one above another; no want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of (Allah) Most Gracious so turn thy vision again: Seest thou any flaw?
Pickthall 3. Who hath created seven heavens in harmony. Thou (Muhammad) canst see no fault in the Beneficent One's creation; then look again: Canst thou see any rifts?
Shakir 3 . Who created the seven heavens one above another; you see no incongruity in the creation of the Beneficent God; then look again, can you see any disorder?

Transliteration 4. THUMMA IRJIc AL- BAS.AR KARRATAIN YANQALIB 'ILAY -KA AL- BAS.AR KHAASI'(AN) WA- HUWA H.ASER
Yusuf Ali 4. Again turn thy vision a second time; (thy) vision will come back to thee dull and discomfited in a state worn out.
Pickthall 4. Then look again and yet again, thy sight will return unto thee weakened and made dim.
Shakir 4 . Then turn back the eye again and again; your look shall '~ come back to you confused while it is fatigued.

Transliteration 5. WA- LA- QAD ZAYYANNAA AS- SAMAA' AD- DUNYAA BI- MAS.AABEH. WA- JAcALNAA -HAA RUJOM(AN) LI- ASH- SHAYAAT.EN WA- AcTADNAA LA- -HUM cADHAAB AS- SAcER
Yusuf Ali 5. And We have (from of old) adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.
Pickthall 5. And verily We have beatified the world's heaven with lamps, and We have made them missiles for the devils, and for them We have prepared the doom of flame.
Shakir 5 . And certainly We have adorned this lower heaven with ( lamps and We have made these missiles for the Shaitans, and We have prepared for them the chastisement of burning.

Transliteration 6. WA- LI- 'ALLADHENA KAFARO BI- RABB -HIM cADHAAB JAHANNAM WA- BI'S AL- MAS.ER
Yusuf Ali 6. For those who reject their Lord (and Cherisher) is the Penalty of Hell: and evil is (such) destination.
Pickthall 6. And for those who disbelieve in their Lord there is the doom of hell, a hapless journey's end!
Shakir 6 . And for those who disbelieve in their Lord is the punishment of hell, and evil is the resort.

Transliteration 7. 'IDHAA ULQO FE -HAA SAMIcO LA- -HAA SHAHEQ(AN) WA- HIYA TAFOR
Yusuf Ali 7. When they are cast therein they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath even as it blazes forth.
Pickthall 7. When they are flung therein they hear its roaring as it boileth up,
Shakir 7 . When they shall be cast therein, they shall hear a loud moaning of it as it heaves,

Transliteration 8. TAKAAD TAMAYYAZ MIN AL- GHAYZ. KULLA-MAA ULQIYA FE -HAA FAWJ SA'ALA -HUM KHAZANAH -HAA 'A- LAM YA'TI -KUM NADHER
Yusuf Ali 8. Almost bursting with fury: every time a Group is cast therein its Keepers will ask "Did no Warner come to you?"
Pickthall 8. As it would burst with rage. Whenever a (fresh) host flung therein the wardens thereof ask them: Came there unto you no warner?
Shakir 8 . Almost bursting for fury. Whenever a group is cast into it, its keeper shall ask them: Did there not come to you a warner?

Transliteration 9. QAALO BALAA QAD JAA'A -NAA NADHER FA- KADHDHABNAA WA- QULNAA MAA NAZZALA 'ALLAAH MIN SHAY' 'IN 'ANTUM 'ILLAA FE D.ALAAL KABER
Yusuf Ali 9. They will say: "Yes indeed: a Warner did come to us but we rejected him and said `Allah never sent down any (Message): ye are in nothing but an egregious delusion!' "
Pickthall 9. They say: Yea, verily, a warner came unto us; but we denied and said: Allah hath naught revealed; ye are in ought but a great error.
Shakir 9 . They shall say: Yea! indeed there came to us a warner, but we rejected (him) and said: Allah has not revealed anything, you are only in a great error.

Transliteration 10. WA- QAALO LAW KUNNAA NASMAc 'AW NAcQIL MAA KUNNAA FE AS.H.AAB AS- SAcER
Yusuf Ali 10. They will further say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!"
Pickthall 10. And they say: Had we been wont to listen or have sense, we had not been among the dwellers in the flames.
Shakir 10 . And they shall say: Had we but listened or pondered, we should not have been among the inmates of the burning fire.

Transliteration 11. FA- IcTARAFO BI- DHANB -HIM FA- SUH.Q(AN) LI- AS.H.AAB AS- SAcER
Yusuf Ali 11. They will then confess their sins: but far will be (Forgiveness) from the Companions of the Blazing Fire!
Pickthall 11. So they acknowledge their sins; but far removed (from mercy) are the dwellers in the flames.
Shakir 11 . So they shall acknowledge their sins, but far will be (forgiveness) from the inmates of the burning fire.

Transliteration 12. 'INNA 'ALLADHENA YAKHSHAWN RABB -HUM BI- AL- GHAYB LA- -HUM MAGHFIRAH WA- 'AJR KABER
Yusuf Ali 12. As for those who fear their Lord unseen for them is Forgiveness and a great Reward.
Pickthall 12. Lo! those who fear their Lord in secret, theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward.
Shakir 12 . (As for) those who fear their Lord in secret, they shall surely have forgiveness and a great reward.

Transliteration 13. WA- ASIRRO QAWL -KUM 'AW AJHARO BI- -HI 'INNA -HU cALEM BI- DHAAT AS.- S.UDOR
Yusuf Ali 13. And whether ye hide your word or publish it He certainly has (full) knowledge of the secrets of (all) hearts.
Pickthall 13. And keep your opinion secret or proclaim it, lo! He is Knower of all that is in the breasts (of men).
Shakir 13 . And conceal your word or manifest it; surely He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts.

Transliteration 14. 'A- LAA YAcLAM MAN KHALAQA WA- HUWA AL- LAT.EF AL- KHABER
Yusuf Ali 14. Should He not know He that created? And He is the One that understands the finest mysteries (and) is well-acquainted (with them).
Pickthall 14. Should He not know what He created? And He is the Subtile, the Aware.
Shakir 14 . Does He not know, Who created? And He is the Knower of the subtleties, the Aware.

Transliteration 15. HUWA 'ALLADHE JAcALA LA- -KUM AL- 'ARD. DHALOL(AN) FA- IMSHO FE MANAAKIB -HAA WA- KULO MIN RIZQ -HI WA- 'ILAY -HI AN- NUSHOR
Yusuf Ali 15. It is He Who has made the earth manageable for you so traverse ye through its tracts and enjoy of the Sustenance which He furnishes: but unto Him is the Resurrection.
Pickthall 15. He it is Who hath made the earth subservient unto you, so walk in the paths thereof and eat of His providence. And unto Him will be the resurrection (of the dead).
Shakir 15 . He it is Who made the earth smooth for you, therefore go about in the spacious sides thereof, and eat of His sustenance, and to Him is the return after death.
