Transliteration 1. WA- AS- SAMAA' WA- AT.- T.AARIQ
Yusuf Ali 1. By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein)
Pickthall 1. By the heaven and the Morning Star
Shakir 1 . I swear by the heaven and the comer by night;

Transliteration 2. WA- MAA ADRAA -KA MAA AT.- T.AARIQ
Yusuf Ali 2. And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?
Pickthall 2. Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!
Shakir 2 . And what will make you know what the comer by night is?

Yusuf Ali 3. (It is) the Star of piercing brightness
Pickthall 3. The piercing Star!
Shakir 3 . The star of piercing brightness;

Transliteration 4. 'IN KULL NAFS LA- MAA cALAY -HAA H.AAFIZ.
Yusuf Ali 4. There is no soul but has a protector over it.
Pickthall 4. No human soul but hath a guardian over it.
Shakir 4 . There is not a soul but over it is a keeper.

Transliteration 5. FA- LI- YANZ.UR AL- 'INSAAN MIN MA(A) KHULIQA
Yusuf Ali 5. Now let man but think from what he is created!
Pickthall 5. So let man consider from what he is created.
Shakir 5 . So let man consider of what he is created:
Comments Note: A challenge to man (Insaan) by his Lord for him to thing about his creation

Transliteration 6. KHULIQA MIN MAA' DAAFIQ
Yusuf Ali 6. He is created from a drop emitted
Pickthall 6. He is created from a gushing fluid
Shakir 6 . He is created of water pouring forth,
Comments Note: This Insaan (Man) is created from a fluid that gushes from somewhere.

Transliteration 7. YAKHRUJ MIN BAYNI AS.- S.ULB WA- AT- TARAA'IB
Yusuf Ali 7. Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:
Pickthall 7. That issued from between the loins and ribs.
Shakir 7 . Coming from between the back and the ribs.
Comments Note: that fluid matter comes from somewhere between the back and the rib. Is not ALL man created from this process? There can be no exception, not cloning, not fatherless, not molding from dust. Any such is then outside the realm of Alaq.

Transliteration 8. 'INNA -HU cALAA RAJc -HI LA- QAADIR
Yusuf Ali 8. Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!
Pickthall 8. Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)
Shakir 8 . Most surely He is able to return him (to life).

Yusuf Ali 9. The Day that (all) things secret will be tested.

Transliteration 10. FA- MAA LA- -HU MIN QOWAH WA- LAA NAAS.IR
Yusuf Ali 10. (Man) will have no power and no helper.
Pickthall 10. Then will he have no might nor any helper.
Shakir 10 . He shall have neither strength nor helper.

Shakir 12 . And the earth splitting (with plants);

Yusuf Ali 13. Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):

Yusuf Ali 15. As for them they are but plotting a scheme
Pickthall 15. Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)
Shakir 15 . Surely they will make a scheme,

Yusuf Ali 17. Therefore grant a delay to the unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for a while).
Pickthall 17. So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while.
